Vetting & safeguarding
Purpose
This policy outlines the company’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults who may encounter our services. Our aim is to ensure safety and protection for all individuals while fulfilling our contractual duties.
Scope
This policy applies to all employees, subcontractors, and freelance staff associated with Impulse Engineering Limited, particularly those in roles that may involve direct interaction with vulnerable groups.
Policy statement
1. Commitment to safeguarding
Impulse Engineering Limited is dedicated to creating a safe environment where the welfare of vulnerable individuals is prioritised. We will ensure that all services are delivered in a manner that protects the welfare and rights of these individuals.
2. Legal framework
This policy has been drawn up on the basis of legislation, policy and guidance that seeks to protect children in all nations of the UK / places we work. A summary of the key legislation and guidance is available from NSPCC.
3. Vetting procedures
All staff and subcontractors working in roles involving contact with vulnerable individuals will undergo the following vetting processes:
- DBS Checks: Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks for roles working with children and vulnerable adults.
- Pre-employment BS7858 (Security screening of individuals employed in a security environment, Code of Practice) background, reference checks and right to work in the UK
- National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC): NPCC Requirements to Security Systems Policy for pre-employment checks to ensure employment would not conflict with Clause 2.3.2(b).
- Right to Work: is confirmed within BS7858
4. Training and awareness
All staff will receive training & guidance appropriate to their duties, covering:
- Understanding types of abuse and neglect
- Recognising signs of abuse
- Reporting procedures and responsibilities
5. Reporting and responding to concerns
Staff members are required to report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the designated safeguarding lead (DSL). All concerns will be taken seriously and investigated promptly.
6. Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL – T. Robinson-Love: Company Secretary)
The DSL will be responsible for:
- Implementing and monitoring the safeguarding policy.
- Providing guidance and support to staff regarding safeguarding matters.
- Liaising with external agencies, such as social services and law enforcement, when necessary.
7. Confidentiality and information sharing
All safeguarding concerns will be treated confidentially. Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis to protect the welfare of the individual involved.
8. Support for staff
Impulse Engineering Limited will provide support for staff members who report concerns or are affected by safeguarding issues.
Review and monitoring
This policy will be reviewed by the directors annually or sooner if there are significant changes in legislation or operational practice. Feedback from staff and stakeholders will be used to inform revisions.
